Dec. 29, 2009 - China amends law to boost renewable energy law
BEIJING, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislature adopted Saturday an
amendment to the renewable energy law to require electricity grid companies to
buy all the power produced by renewable energy generators.
The amendment says the State Air Jordan Shoes Council energy department and the state power
regulatory agency should supervise the purchases.
The amendment, approved by lawmakers after it was
heard the second time at a five-day meeting of the National People's Congress
(NPC) Standing Committee, aims to support the country's fledgling renewable
energy sector.
It says the State Council energy department, in
conjunction with the state power regulatory agency and the State Council
finance departments, should "determine the proportion of renewable energy
power generation to the overall generating capacity for a certain period."
Power enterprises refusing to buy power produced
by renewable energy generators will be fined up to an amount double that of the
economic loss of the renewable energy company, it says.
Renewable energy includes non-fossil fuels such as
wind and solar power, hydropower, biomass, geothermal and ocean energy.
Still, two-thirds of China's energy supply is fueled by
coal, and the country has become one of the largest greenhouse gas emitters.
The law, which took effect in January 2006, was
aimed at "optimizing the country's energy structure and safeguarding

It covered subsidies, pricing management and
supervision measures.
"The legislation on improving the consumption
of clean energy contributes to the global fight on climate change," said
Wang Zhongying, director of the renewable energy development center of the
Energy Research Institute under the National Development and Reform Commission.
A national plan on renewable energy development
issued in 2007 set a target to increase renewable resources to supply 15
percent of its total energy consumption by 2020, in a bid to reduce greenhouse
gas emissions and promote sustainable economic growth.
Statistics show renewable resources supplied 9
percent of China's total energy consumption last year, an equivalent of
reducing 600 million tonnes of carbon dioxide.
Last month, the State Council announced that China
was going toreduce the intensity of carbon dioxide emissions per unit of GDP in
2020 by 40 to 45 percent compared with the level of 2005.
Wang said, to achieve the emission reduction
target, it was vital to realize the renewable energy consumption goal.
"The law amendment strengthens the confidence
of achieving the target," he said.
Signaling an official effort to shore up clean
energy development and fight climate change, the law requires the government to
set up a special fund to renewable energy scientific research, finance rural
clean energy projects, build independent power systems in remote areas and
islands, and build information networks to exploit renewable energy.
The fund will be managed by finance, energy and
pricing sectors of the State Council.
Official statistics show that in 2008, China used more hydro and solar power than any
other country and its use of wind power Air Jordan

However, industry experts estimated that one third
of the country's wind-generated electricity could not be well transmitted to
the grid.
Therefore, the amendment requires grid
companies to "improve transmitting technologies and enhance grid
capability to absorb more power produced by renewable energy generators."

Dec. 28, 2009 - Japan¡¯s Industrial Production Rises 2.6% on Exports (Update2)
Japanese manufacturers increased output at the
fastest pace in six months in November, supporting the nation¡¯s recovery from
its deepest postwar recession.
The Nikkei 225 Stock Average rose 1.1 percent Air Jordan Shoes after the report. Renewed demand in Asia is encouraging companies including Fuji Heavy
Industries Ltd. and Suzuki Motor Corp. to increase production and the

ending March 31.

Exports to China
and Asia rose in November for the first time
since September 2008, according to a Finance Ministry report released last

Large companies plan to cut capital spending 13.8
percent in the year ending March 2010, the second-worst projection on record,

Dec. 27, 2009 - BlackBerry Maker Is Strained by Growth
BlackBerry devices throughout the Americas suffered service
interruptions from Tuesday afternoon through early Wednesday,
telecommunications carriers said. RIM issued an apology and attributed the
interruption to a flaw in recent versions of its instant-messaging program.
The glitch caused an
"unanticipated database issue within the BlackBerry infrastructure,"
the company said. RIM declined to elaborate or make an executive available for Air Jordan Shoes comment.
The back-to-back problems
strike at one of the biggest selling points for the Waterloo, Ontario,
handset maker: reliability. RIM tells customers¡ªmany of them big corporations
that use BlackBerrys for internal email¡ªthat its services are more secure and

But analysts say the
outages highlight potential problems in the structure that makes RIM
successful. The company pumps all its traffic through its own
network-operations centers, giving RIM greater control over matters like

that RIM doesn't have enough backup systems in place, said John Jackson, vice

Dec. 25, 2009 - Ahmadinejad dismisses US deadline for nuclear deal
TEHRAN, Iran ¡ª Iran's president on Tuesday dismissed a year-end
deadline set by the Obama administration and the West for Tehran to accept a U.N.-drafted deal to swap
enriched uranium for nuclear fuel. The United
States warned Iran

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad also accused the U.S. of
fabricating a purported Iranian secret document that appears to lay out a plan
for developing a critical component of an atomic bomb.
Ahmadinejad's remarks underscored Tehran's defiance in the nuclear standoff ¡ª
and also sought to send a message that his government has not been weakened by
the protest movement sparked by June's disputed presidential election. He spoke
a day after the latest opposition protest by tens of thousands mourning a
dissident cleric who died over the weekend.
Late Tuesday, the Web site of state-run television said
Ahmadinejad had appointed a new chief of Iran's
prestigious Art Academy, removing opposition leader Mir
Hossein Mousavi from the post.
Mousavi, a presidential challenger who alleged voting
fraud, had attended Monday's funeral procession. There was no immediate comment
from Mousavi.
President Barack Obama has set a rough deadline of the end
of this year for Iran
to respond to an offer of dialogue on the nuclear issue. Washington and its
allies are warning of new, tougher sanctions on Iran if it doesn't respond.
The U.N.-proposed deal is the centerpiece of the West's
diplomatic effort. Under the deal, Tehran
would ship most of its stockpile of low-enriched uranium abroad to be processed
into fuel rods, which would ease the West's fears that the material could be
used to produce a nuclear weapon.
Iran, which denies it seeks Air Jordan
5 to build a bomb, has balked
at the deal's terms.
The international community can give Iran "as many deadlines as they want, we
don't care," Ahmadinejad said in a speech to thousands of supporters in
the southern city of Shiraz.
Ahmadinejad dismissed the threat of sanctions, saying Iran wants
talks "under just conditions where there is mutual respect."
"We told you that we are not afraid of sanctions
against us, and we are not intimidated," he said, addressing the West.
"If Iran
wanted to make a bomb, we would be brave enough to tell you."
As the crowd cheered: "We love you, Ahmadinejad,"
the Iranian leader lashed out at Washington,
vowing Iran will stand up against
U.S. attempts to
"dominate the Middle East."
The U.S.
responded sternly. "It is a very real deadline for the international
community," said White House press secretary Robert Gibbs.
In Washington, State
Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said the international community was
"united in its resolve that Iran must either answer the
questions that we have about its nuclear aspirations or face additional
pressure."
Susan Rice, the U.S.
ambassador to the United Nations, said in an interview with the Associated
Press and APTN it was "premature" to discuss possible new U.N.
sanctions against Iran, but
added that the U.S., Britain, France,
Russia, China and Germany "are considering a
wide range of alternatives."
In Paris, Foreign Minister
Bernard Kouchner said the chances of finding a diplomatic solution to the
nuclear standoff with Iran
were "never very significant" and that in the "worst case,"
France will bring up the
issue of new sanctions on Tehran.
In a separate interview with ABC News, Ahmadinejad accused the
U.S. of forging the document that appears to describe an Iranian work plan for
developing a neutron Air Jordan

in detonating a nuclear bomb.
"They are all a fabricated bunch of papers
continuously being forged and disseminated by the American government." He
said the accusations that Iran
seeks a weapon has "turned into a repetitive and tasteless joke." The

Dec. 23, 2009 - House Democrat announces switch to GOP
to
GOP
A Democratic House member who has opposed several of President Barack
Obama's top domestic agenda items is switching to the Republican Party.
Rep. Parker Griffith of Alabama,
who hails from a heavily conservative congressional district, announced Tuesday

Shoes that he will join the GOP.
"I have become increasingly concerned
that the bills and policies pushed by the current Democratic leadership are not
good for north Alabama
or our nation," he said during a press conference to announce the
switch. "More importantly, they do not represent my values and
convictions."
After being narrowly elected in 2008, Griffith voted against the Obama-backed
economic stimulus package in February, and he opposed the House version of
health care reform legislation.
He was one of only four Democrats who voted against each
of three of Obama's top legislative priorities in 2009: health reform, the
stimulus, and cap-and-trade energy legislation.
"I can no longer align myself with a party that
continues to pursue legislation that is bad for our country, hurts our economy,
and drives us further and futher into debt," Griffith said.
Before Parker's defection, Democrats held a 258-177 majority
in the House. Griffith's
move would reduce that advantage by one seat.
The lawmaker's intention to switch parties was first
reported by POLITICO.
Earlier this year, Griffith
announced that he would vote for the challenger, whomever that may be, against
Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., in her re-election bid for House Speaker in the next
Congress if Democrats maintain their majority.
National Republican Conference ED
Hardy Committee Chairman Pete Sessions, R-Texas, praised Griffith in
a statement, saying that the Alabama lawmaker's decision is
"emblematic" of Americans' uneasiness with the Democratic Party's
agenda.
Democrats said Tuesday that they are not surprised by the
switch, given Griffith's
opposition to his now-former party's legislative priorities.
"He went off the reservation a long time ago,"
a Democratic aide told NBC News. "This just confirms what we already knew
for a long time. This is not based on [Griffith's]
voting record. It's the way in which he's conducted himself."
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the
political arm of House Democrats, spent more than $1.2 million on Griffith's run in 2008,
for his first term in office.
Despite his voting against major Democratic initiatives,
the Democratic aide said Griffith
will likely have to face a tough GOP primary because of other instances in
which he voted in line with Democrats ¡ª particularly to approve the Troubled
Asset Relief Program and several spending bills.

PITTSBURGH ¡ª Ben Roethlisberger ended the game the way he
started it by throwing a touchdown pass to Mike Wallace, a desperation 19-yarder
on the final play that ED
Hardy Belts rallied Pittsburgh to a 37-36 victory over Green Bay on
Sunday, ending the Packers' five-game winning streak and the Steelers' five-game
losing streak.
The Packers (9-5) stalled in their playoff run as they
couldn't hold leads of 28-27 and 36-30 in a frantic fourth quarter that was
much like Oakland's 27-23 win in Pittsburgh two weeks ago,
when the lead changed hand five times in the final nine minutes. Green Bay could have secured a playoff spot with its first
win in Pittsburgh
since 1970 and a Giants loss or tie on Monday night.
Roethlisberger went 29 of 46 with three TDs and 503 yards
while becoming the first Steelers quarterback to throw for 500 yards in a game.
He kept the Steelers' decisive 86-yard drive going by finding Santonio Holmes
for 32 yards on a fourth-and-7 play and Heath Miller for 30 on third-and-15.
Down to his last play of the game, Roethlisberger found
Wallace open in the left front corner of the end zone with Josh Bell in
coverage. Wallace managed to get both feet inbounds on a play upheld by replay,
and Jeff Reed ¡ª who also kicked three field goals ¡ª added the extra point.
A season after the Steelers beat San Diego in the first 11-10 game in NFL
history, they won the first 37-36 game, according to STATS, LLC.
Wallace also caught a 60-yard scoring pass on Pittsburgh's
first play of the game as Steelers (7-7) joined five other AFC teams tied at
7-7 in the chase for the AFC's last playoff spot ¡ª and just in the nick of
time.
The Packers' loss clinched the NFC North title for the
Minnesota Vikings.
The Super Bowl champion Steelers have lost five times this
season when ahead or tied in the fourth ED

Dec. 21, 2009 - Patients Urged to Weigh CT Scan Risks and Benefits
CHICAGO (Reuters) - Patients should not let recent studies
showing that exposure to radiation from a CT scan may raise their cancer risk
scare them away from getting this type of X-ray when it is needed, radiology
specialists said on Air
Jordan 7 Tuesday.
A CT scan, also known as computed tomography, gives doctors a view
inside the body, often eliminating the need for exploratory surgery. But CT
scans involve a much higher radiation dose than conventional X-rays. A chest CT
scan exposes the patient to more than 100 times the radiation dose of a typical
chest X-ray.
Radiology specialists emphasized that an individual's risk
of developing cancer as a result of radiation exposure from a single CT scan is
very low, especially when compared to the risk to them from a disease that a CT
scan may help identify.
Use of these tests for detecting tumors and heart disease
and diagnosing other conditions such as appendicitis has risen dramatically in
the past three decades.
Dr. Elliot Fishman, a professor of radiology at Johns Hopkins
University in Baltimore, said some studies equated the risk
of getting cancer from a single CT scan to the risks of dying in a long car
ride.
"If you are going to a good physician who orders a
study (a CT scan) that he or she thinks you need, you need to get the
study," Fishman said in a telephone interview.
Recently published research has raised concerns about the
risks of radiation exposure from diagnostic tests, especially CT scans. Two
studies appearing on Monday in the Archives of Internal Medicine estimated that
CT scans cause thousands Air Jordan 8 of U.S. cancer cases and cancer deaths
each year.
The estimates of cancer cases caused by CT scans were based
on the rates of cancer that occurred in people exposed to radiation from the
atomic bombs dropped on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima
and Nagasaki at
the end of World War Two. But many experts disagree on whether that model
offers a fair comparison.

But unlike the more than half-dozen Android phones made
by phone manufacturers today, Google designed virtually the entire software
experience behind the phone, from the applications that run on it to the look
and feel of each screen.
The Internet giant is taking a new, and potentially
risky, approach to selling the device. Rather than selling the phone through a
wireless carrier¡ªthe way the

today¡ªGoogle plans to sell the Nexus One itself online. Users will have to buy
cellular service for the device separately.
Google began sharing a version of the Nexus One with
employees in recent days, according to people familiar with the matter.
In a blog post Saturday, Google wrote it was sharing a
new device running its Android operating system with employees to
"experiment with new mobile features and capabilities."
The phone is a significant escalation of Google's assault
on the mobile industry, challenging both wireless carriers that sell devices as
well as companies that design them.
Google became a high-profile player in mobile two years
ago, when it launched Android. Google designed the software to seed its mobile
applications, such as Gmail and Google Maps, and increase usage of the Internet
from phones to grow its online advertising business. A number of leading
handset manufacturers, including HTC and Inc., built phones running the
software, some of which contain branding "powered by Google."
But the phones¡ªmany of which just hit the market in
recent months¡ªhaven't sold nearly as well as Inc.'s iPhone, which is capturing
more interest from software developers.
Now, Google appears to want to throw its brand behind a
device more directly, designing a phone without working with the wireless
carriers that often dictate what features they allow on their networks.
The move could alienate wireless ED

WASHINGTON ¡ª Democratic Sen. Al Franken took the unusual step Thursday of shutting down Sen. Joe Lieberman on the Senate floor. Dec. 16, 2009 - Health reform: Will seniors be able to switch between Medicare options?
The health reform bills would impact the Medicare program in a number of ways, but they would not eliminate or seriously restrict Ed's ability to move from one Medicare option to another. Medicare is the nation's insurance plan for people 65 and older. It is government run. Medicare Advantage is a subset of this program, where Air Jordan 10 private companies meet federal standards and vie for the business of the nation's seniors. Similar to the enrollment period for those in the work force, seniors can choose between traditional Medicare or one of a number of Medicare Advantage plans from Nov. 15 to the end of each year. If they don't like their plan, they can change it the following year. The government does have a second enrollment period between January and March, during which a recipient could change plans but not drug coverage options. The health reform bills call for as much as $500 billion in Medicare budget reductions in the next decade. This won't result in an actual drop in Medicare funding, but a slowing of its growth. A significant portion -- $120 billion -- would come from reducing the federal subsidies on the private Medicare Advantage plan, which could result in some loss of extra benefits, such as vision or dental. Democrats and the AARP say these cuts will make the system more efficient and won't result in a loss in any government-mandated benefits. Republicans have spent the last few weeks hammering this issue on the Senate floor, saying the cuts will impact seniors. The bill also includes a deal with the drug Air Jordan 11 industry that would reduce the gap in coverage in the Medicare Part D drug program. Dec. 10, 2009 - Why Nebraska's Suh should clutch the Heisman
Iowa linebacker Pat Angerer, a player Suh edged out for the Nagurski Award this year, said of the Nebraska star: "The fact that he can do all of that while being double-teamed or triple-teamed, it's unbelievable. Wednesday's drama was the supposed break in solidarity within the developing countries bloc following the Tuvaluan delegations announcement that they wanted a stronger agreement than the Kyoto Protocol that would brand-clothing place emissions reduction burdens on both developed and developing countries. In contemporary international negotiations few countries outside the United States negotiate alone. Instead countries make small compromises in their negotiating positions by form negotiating blocs that share a common position in the hope that they won't have to make larger ones with countries that don't share the same interests. By grouping together blocs leverage their negotiating capacity and present a common front along the lines of an adaptation of an old union chant - "small island states united, will never be defeated". The European Union is a formal bloc, but other blocs are more informal and loose enabling individual countries to break away if the bloc's common position is sufficiently compromised. At Copenhagen negotiating blocs include the Gulf States made up of Middle East Countries, the Group of 77 (G77) African, Asian and South American developing countries plus China and the small island states that claim ED Hardy Jeans they will be most affected by rising sea levels. Going into these negotiations the G77 plus China favoured a new commitment period under the Kyoto Protocol once the first commitment period expires in 2012 precisely because it doesn't oblige developing countries to cut their emissions. For the past ten years a daily ritual at each climate change negotiating conference has been the awarding of the 'Fossil of the day'. Countries are awarded the honour for those who have done the most that day to hold back a binding international agreement on climate change. But today the first-ever 'Ray of the Day' was awarded to the country that sought to advance negotiations toward a comprehensive ED Hardy shoes internationally legally binding agreement, and it was awarded to Tuvalu. Dec. 8, 2009 - Boeing CFO Stands By 737 Production Rates, 787 Timetable
CHICAGO (Dow Jones)--Boeing Co. (BA) is standing by 2010 production plans for its popular 737 aircraft, James Bell, chief financial officer, said at the Bank of America Merrill Lynch Global Industries Conference ED Hardy handbags that was webcast from New York on Tuesday. Boeing is competing for a major contract to provide refueling tankers to the U.S. Air Force. Rival Northrop Grumman Corp. pretty good marriage. It could be better. There are things about my husband that drive me crazy. The amazing thing is that the Bengals have three backs who have each rushed for 100 yards in the last four games. WASHINGTON ¡ª The United States on Friday vehemently condemned a suicide bomb attack in Mogadishu that killed at least 23 people, including three Somali government ministers.
